During the night of New Year’s Eve 2009/2010, NEW BERN, North Carolina, Daughter City of Bern Switzerland, started into their 300th commemoration. To learn more about the numerous and creative attractions with which NEW BERN celebrate their 300th Anniversary throughout the year 2010, please visit www.newbern300.com.
But we are celebrating also ! In our home town Bern. With the exhibition “New Bern, North Carolina – 300 years Daughter City in America”, we show you New Bern’s development in eleven big chapters.
Our objective is to portray and honor New Bern in old Bern and thereby to contribute to further strengthening the relations between the two cities. We are particularly pleased about New Bern’s active involvement in the preparation of some of the exhibition topics, as this has lead to a very close collaboration between the two project groups.
It is a great privilege for us that we may display our exhibition in the Historic Museum of Bern, and we would like to thank the Museum Management for its generosity and its confidence. It is the first time that the Historic Museum Bern is making its rotating exhibit space in the new extension building “Kubus” available to an external organizer. The responsibility for the concept, the realization and the financing however lies with our “Verein 300 Jahre NEW BERN” and with Max Werren, whom we were very fortunate to gain as the exhibit project leader.
Our exhibit will be open to the public until Mai 16th, 2010. Thus, New Bern’s first 300th Anniversary celebratory occasion will occur, appropriately, in their mother city Bern. We are extremely pleased and honored that a numerous delegation from NEW BERN travelled to Bern for the opening.
I would like to thank all involved for their unlimited commitment and dedication in the elaboration of this exciting project. Equally I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the partners, supporters and lenders, whose generous contribution has enabled the realization of this undertaking.
We look forward to seeing you. Please visit our exhibition and convey the message to others!
